It was fun at the Bowling Night last
Sunday. The winner was Nam Nguyen (CS major) and we all went to Yen

as an award from VSA. Congratulations, Nam.
Also, the Southeast
Asian Night co-sponsored by VSA was a success. Audience was amazed
with Dan Bau and Dan Tranh performed by Tina. It was so fun with the
dance. We all enjoyed the night.

I've received a letter from Office of Student Services asking VSA to
participate in the Asian Americans Student Welcome Night on Monday, 9/18
from 7-9PM in the Holmes Center Regency Room. We will go for this. I've already faxed them our reply, also requested them to provide us with
a full 6-foot table, a 5-foot display frame, a TV and access to electricity.
These will be our tools to present VSA in the event. We'll also create flyers for this event.
This event is sponsored by The Presidential Task Force on Asian Americans.
VSA office
    at NIU (5/24/00)
    Congratulations!

VSA now has its own office at NIU. Of around 200 organizations on
campus, VSA is one of 8 of them to have an office on campus. We'll have a
small library for Vietnamese students and other students at NIU, free of
charge. The library helps other students expose to Vietnam with current
magazines, newsletters etc... If you have magazines or newsletters that you
think could be helpful, please distribute to our library. We greatly
appreciate your kindness. Since there are not much students coming to school
during summer, the office will be open in September as Fall semester starts.
The opening hours will be posted in September. See you all there.

Direction: our office is located on the 1st floor in Campus Life
Building, room 190A. From the main door, you'll turn left to Student Organization
office, turn right and you'll be heading to student office area.

All officers have access to edit content of VSA homepage. Please distribute
your work in an appropriate manner. The content will be monitored and all
misuse or disturbance will be eliminated. We welcome your works and ideas.

You may take a look at their site for more info http://www.vhkhvn.org/.
Free
    Internet access (3/19/00)
That's true. Now you can access the Internet at home without paying the
ISP (Internet Service Provider) fee, usually $120/year. For most of NIU students, if you
live on campus, there's no need for this because you just need to dial the number provided
by NIU (if you're NIU students) and pay the local phone charge. You can use these free
offers for your relatives, friends ... who have to pay for Internet access. Following are
places that you can download softwares for free Internet access:
        Netzero http://www.netzero.net
        Altavista http://www.altavista.com
        Juno http://www.juno.com
        FreeINet http://www.freeinet.com
VSA
    office on campus (3/12/00)
Kevin Knight, SA Vice President, contacted VSA on March 10 regarding the office space.
Fraternities, sororities, religious, and political organizations are not eligible for
these spaces. We are though. VSA will apply for an office space on campus. Organizations
receiving spaces will be announced on March 29, 2000. There is no cost for either applying
for or receiving an office, but all additional costs for phones, computers, etc., must be
    met by our organization.
Business cards for officers are ready
    (3/10/00) Info: Nguyen Huynh
Officers are contacting people for the fund-raising purpose and they need to do that in a
professional manner. That's why they get these cards. Business cards are ready to pick up
at Treasurer's place. Members will get their cards after we finish the fund-raising
    campaign.
Meeting
    for fund-raising (2/24/00)
VSA will hold a 30 minute meeting on Friday, March 10 (last day before the Spring break.)
This is for the board of officers regarding fund-raising for VSA. Specific time and
location will be posted on March 4. Members interested in this matter are welcomed to be
    there to share your ideas.
Business card for VSA members
    (2/24/00) Info: Nguyen Huynh
I'd like to make VSA a professional organization. There will be business cards for all
members of our organization. Certainly, your name will be on the card. We do this after we
have the fund. This is beneficial to all members and I'll get it done after Spring
    semester. More info? Contact Nguyen.
VSA
budget for 2000 (2/23/00) Info: Nguyen Huynh
I've talked to Troy Caldwell - Treasurer of the office of the Student Association - about
a budget for VSA. Here's the info from him: by law, to get the financial support from NIU,
any organization must be officially recognized for 1 year. Our organization does not meet
this requirement. Therefore, we will do a fund-raising. I'm thinking of a dancing night
where we can have fun and be together. If you don't know how to dance, no problem; there
might be a dance band from Chicago and we just have fun. Inviting your relatives and old
friends is good idea. I need your ideas and comments of the convenient time. Please email.
VSA mailbox (2/18/00)
VSA just got its own mailbox in the SA office in the Campus Life Building, it's in the
upper right corner. Officers may contact Nguyen Huynh to get more info.
